Visit Scotland have deemed 2022 Scotlands Year of Stories and Christine Woodcock of Genealogy Tours of Scotland and myself have joined forces to provide a quarterly virtual conference based on four separate themes.
Each of these events will have some amazing guest speakers who will provide presentations relating to the theme for that quarter as follows: -
19 March - 2pm GMT or 9am Eastern Time
The topic for this event will be Emigration/Immigration with presentations by Dr Marjory Harper speaking on Voices from the Scottish Diaspora: Highland Emigration to Canada in the 20th Century, Dr Keir Strickland on Excavating the Clearances, Jessica Evershed of The National Records of Scotland on The Highlands & Islands Emigration Scheme Database and
Christine Woodcock on Highland Scots in Atlantic Canada
18 June – 2pm GMT or 9am Eastern Time
The topic for this event will be Crime and Punishment with presentations by Chris Paton on The Mount Stewart Murder, Robert Howie on The Story of Jekyll & Hyde (Deacon Brodie), Donna Moore on The Lock Trilogy: Historical Crime Fiction and Roddy Greig on the Fife Kalendar of Convicts
10 Sept – 2pm GMT or 9am Eastern Time
The topic for this event will be Industry and Occupations with presentations by Justin Parkes on Scottish Steelworks and the Coal-fired Ironworks Industry, Stephen Clancy on The Lives of Paisley Weavers, Dr Irene O'Brien on My Ancestors was... (Researching Ancestors Occupations) and Neil Fraser of Historic Environment on Scotlands Industrial Collections
10 December – 2pm GMT or 9am Eastern Time
The topic for this event will be Uniquely Scottish with presentations by
Dr Nick Fiddes on Tartan - Scotland's Gift to the World, Paula Duncan on Kiltmaking as a Heritage Craft, Carol Jackson on Gin: Scotland's Newest Favourite Drink and Renowned Chef Gary MacLean on Scotland's Larder
Each event costs $17 CAD about £10 and if you book all 4 you will be entitled to a free event on 15th October on ‘Pulling Your Family Story Together’
Don’t worry if you can’t make one event, recordings of each event will be accessible for a period of 30 days following the event.
