Visit Scotland have designated 2022 as Year of Stories!
During this amazing year Scottish Stories written or inspired by all things Scottish will be showcased & celebrated.
Stories are an amazing way for us all to connect, share the tales that have been passed down, memories of our childhood or stories from the places we have lived.
This themed year will not only highlight books & some of the famous Authors Scotland has to offer, but will highlight local tales, folklore, traditions & film all of which are inspired by our rich heritage!
Stories are so important to Scottish Heritage they tell us more about our people, Industry, places, tragedies & success stories ….the list is endless.
Even if you are not known for burying yourself in a book, the love of stories runs deep in all of us, what better way to connect with older & younger family members than to share stories & experiences.
Visit Scotland’s aim in 2022 is to inspire locals & visitors to discover, celebrate and share their own stories of Scotland & during 2022 I would love to help you with that!!
I was delighted when I heard what the topic for this themed year would be as it fits in so well with Scottish Family History & Scottish History.
Kilted Kulture Conference
For 2022 I have teamed up with a friend & colleague Christine Woodcock to provide an online quarterly conference named ‘Kilted Kulture’. Each event will have a different theme which ties in with Year of Stories & will see some amazing speakers providing presentations for each of these events.
The Dates & Themes are as follows:-
19th March – Emigration/Immigration (we will look further into some of the stories of those who left Scotland in search of a better life)
18th June – Crime & Punishment (think murders, historical crimes & resources to find convicts)
10th September – Industry & Occupations (find out more about some of the industries unique to Scotland & how to locate records for your Ancestors)
10th December – Uniquely Scottish (think tartan, alcohol & food)
These events will be bookable individually or as an annual package.
Book all 4 events & receive a FREE bonus event taking place on the 15th October when we will show you how to pull all your stories together by publishing, taking images, journaling etc.
You can check out the list of amazing topics & speakers now on my website & the link to book these events will be open from the 2nd January.
A further blog post will be posted in January to launch the Conference.

Kilted Ancestors Facebook Group
Some of you may already be members of my Kilted Ancestors Group.
Set up in February 2020 this private group was established as a place where members could share stories about their Scottish Families.
It is a place where anyone with Scottish Ancestry can share photographs, stories, information relating to artifacts, letters, information on where their Ancestors came from or anything else relating to your Scottish Roots.
Social History is so important, it is ultimately what brings our Ancestors to life. It is therefore really important to pass the stories down the family so that they are not lost forever.
As we travel through this amazing storytelling journey the group is also an amazing place to get help with things you might be stuck with. It has turned into such an amazing community!
Each month we provide prompts to help inspire you to ask questions within your family, write down stories & share memories within the group.
Myself & the group Moderator Christine Woodcock of Genealogy Tours of Scotland did not want to miss an amazing opportunity such as this & have created a FULL YEAR of FREE Activities & Talks around the Year of Stories theme during 2022. You only need to be a member to take part!
We have monthly themes which will run parallel with the topics in the Kilted Kulture Conference & will have monthly Facebook Live Events with speakers providing free presentations to assist you with your own research, tell Scottish stories & give you ideas on how you can documents your own Family Stories.
Dont wish to miss a Kilted Ancestors update then subscribe to the Kilted Ancestors Newsletter via the dedicated webpage
There will be a launch event on Sunday 2nd January 2022 via Facebook Live within the Kilted Ancestors Group at 2pm GMT (9am Eastern Time) when we will be telling you more about whats to come in 2022. Dont worry if you cant make it at the time as the recording will be available in the group or via my YouTube Channel
